Advocacy

Our advocate is well versed in ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act.), including individual rights and benefits.  Assistance can be provided while consumers prefer social security benefits, social services and accessible public accommodations.  Ultimately you will learn to self-advocate for your own needs.  Architectural Barrier Consultation

The Independent Living Center provides technical assistance through on-site architectural assessments. Detailed recommendations (in accordance with NYS building codes and ADA guidelines) are provided for suggested accessibility modifications. (i.e.,ramps, bathrooms, etc)

TRAID
The Capital District TRAID Center is funded in part by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, US Department of Education, given to the TRAID Project, New York State Office of the Advocate for the Disabled.traid provides a device demonstration center and an information and referral service. TRAID also maintains a loan-out-library of assistive technology.  General TRAID Services are available to all disabled individuals with disabilities their family members, service providers, employers, educators and others who are interested in disability issues, or assistive technology. The Early Intervention portion of this project enables us to provide services to infants and toddlers, beginning with the new born up to the age of three years of age.
